Captain K's Getaway is an amazing holiday option in Coorg. Great ambience and well maintained rooms, good food, variety of options to keep kids entertained and above all great hosts.

- Sujatha Menon

Captain K's getaway is THE place to stay at Madikeri. The rooms and the other facilities provided are more than what most hotels and home stays offer in terms of quality and quantity. The food and the hospitality is just brilliant.

I’ll definitely recommended Captain K's getaways to any of my friends visiting Coorg.

-Kenneth,

I never thought that home stays in India could be such a comfortable and luxurious experience. Captain K’s was the perfect getaway with the right mix of relaxation and fun activities one could have asked for – lovely rooms and AMAZING bathrooms, huge library of books and DVDs, the pool and the bar, TRAMPOLINE, bicycling and breathtaking views at all times.

It was a perfect holiday all thanks to the 3 wonderful people and their very impressive staff –
Keira: the sweet little happy girl, full of enthusiasm and ready to beat you in bike racing or foosball anytime of the day!
Kieren: the young bright knowledgeable tour guide who took us around for a beautiful walk in the coffee plantations in their huge estate!
Leila: the perfect hostess and a brilliant cook who ensured adequate variety even in my vegetarian food including the local Coorg speciality

Thank you for the hospitality, would definitely visit you again!

I can easily say that I felt 'at home, while away from home'. Leila prepared the most exquisite local and other food for us. Even though we were in a home stay, the experience was no less than a 5-star one.

The kids, the dogs, the ambiance, the rooms, the pool, the trampoline, the food, the basketball court, the estate - everything was simply amazing

If you are a tightly knit family or a bunch of friends - its a must to go stay here in coorg.

My first visit to Coorg and I associate my visit with the warm hospitality of Leila's Captain K. The moment one enters the paths of Captain K you can smell the freshness in the air especially if you are coming from the hustle and bustle of city life. The breeze around Captain K is refreshing and spicy as you can smell the coffee and pepper in the air!

Leila leaves no stone unturned in hospitality starting from welcome to departure. We lived in a queen size bedroom and loved the woodwork and high ceiling of the ancestral house which has been very smartly and modernly redecorated. The view from the room was mesmerising. Beyond the ocean blue swimming pool water you can see lush green vegetation.

The food is very special not because of it spices and menu but the love and care Leila puts in the food herself. We were delighted to have most of the organic home grown veggies!

She is a great host for travel advice too! Part of our stay package included a free trip to coffee and pepper plantations. Open jeep safari and lush green trees is exactly one wants when in a place like Coorg.

Overall, I would highly recommend anyone visting Coorg to stay only at one place that is Leila, Kieren and Keira's CAPTAIN K's! A beautiful and must experience for all ages!

All aboard Captain K’s!

If your family is looking for a quiet vacation at a little hill station called Coorg then I strongly recommend staying at Captain K’s. Why do I recommend it?
The rooms are very spacious and extremely comfortable with tasteful decor. The bathrooms are a big surprise!

It is a home stay but has many amenities that posh hotels in the area offer like things for the kids to do and a complimentary breakfast with the menu ranging from continental to Indian and also a mouth watering barbecue.
It also has several amenities that you wouldn’t find in any other hotel, like the home stay is run by a lady who personally sees to your every need and often makes the breakfast herself.

The owner’s kids are very friendly and keep your kids thoroughly entertained with endless board games, the infinity pool and the trampoline to name a few.
For those who enjoy sight-seeing Captain K’s is situated at a convenient location which is not too far away from town. Captain K’s also offers a trip into the estate on which it is located, where elephants and other wild life can be regularly spotted. Lastly this home stay is so different because it has the warmth and the feel of a real home

All in all I have to say that a major part of the reason why our trip to Coorg was so memorable was largely because we stayed at Captain K’s! It was such a good experience that we will definitely return.

December saw us taking to Coorg, a lovely small place nestled amidst lush green and aromatic coffee plantations...

The stay at Captain K's was a pure delight! It was a home away from home, strongly recommended for its stylish interior, great local cuisine and a lovely ambience. Your kids can have a relaxed time with a lovely toy and book collection. The hostess and her family make u very comfortable and at ease - a must try!!

We were greeted warmly and shown to our deluxe bedroom which was perfectly adequate for our needs. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very well furnish. The most noticeable part of the resort were the superb infinity pool with a great view on the valley.

Breakfast the next morning was nice, home cooked, great quality and you can even sit in a lovely outdoor area to eat. The guesthouse is in a great location, seven kms from Madikeri, the District HQ’s of Coorg. Leila and family are so friendly and really helpful. I highly recommend Captain K's Getaway for a great stay in Coorg.

We stayed at Captain K's Getaway in November last year. (2012)

Leila is a hands on hostess and personally looks into making sure her guests are comfortable at her home stay. And that goes a long way towards making her beautiful property one of the best and most fun places to stay at while in Coorg.

Staying at Captain K’s is like staying at a lovely resort, but with the personalized touches of a well-run home stay. The guest cottage and premises are thoughtfully and aesthetically put together, with many little touches that are unique to Captain K’s. The comfy ‘resort style’ mattress, infinity pool, the HUGE and interestingly designed bathroom are complimented by the hot Coorg style snacks for tea, the pretty flower pots placed strategically against the skyline, Leila’s friendly kids jumping along with yours on the professional sized trampoline.

The pictures on the site don’t do justice to the place - Our stay at Captain K’s was a truly a pleasant surprise.

I would highly recommend it to people with kids – It’s a very kid friendly place with all the activities, the dogs, the tractor ride through the estate, trip to the vegetable garden (enthusiastically conducted by Keira), thoughtfully prepared kiddie meal.

But again, also a great place for people wanting a serene and scenic holiday doing nothing

I can’t not write about the food – If you’re lucky to have Leila around during your stay there, she personally looks into preparing the meals. All the meals we had there were special and very good – with home style Coorg specialities (Not easy to find in Coorg resturants!) and some unique Laila touches like the Mangalorean ice-cream dessert.

On the whole, a lot of care has gone into putting this experience together. We got a cute little ‘Captain K branded’ package of coffee when we left. A five star experience - And one we look forward to doing again soon.

We travelled to Captain Ks getaway from Bangalore having heard about it from a couple who had stayed there earlier who told us it was awesome, and we weren't disappointed.

After a short drive from Madikeri - about 15-20 minutes, we found ourselves entering this neat looking place. I must say the appearance of the place on entry is extremely pleasing, set like a blue jewel amidst lush plantation, making for a happy air of expectation. There are two large rooms, one of which we occupied, with an extra bed for our 14 year old. The rooms are really large with some designer touches, for example the tea/coffee making alcove. The bathrooms are extra large, with a natural lighting element which reflects the care with which the place is designed. The linen is white and crisp, making it a genuine pleasure to sink into bed.

On coming out, there's the feature which I guess sets this one apart from the regular homestay - the infinity pool. It makes for some good recreational splashing around and more, which our boys (the other one's all of 10) took to with gusto, joined by Leila Alvares' own Kieren. (have I got the spelling right ?) The deal for food is that breakfast, tea and dinner are a part of the package, and we were pampered by the lavish spread for meals including tea, which featured onion pakodas, local cookies and good coffee. Leila's personal touches in planning the meals, preparation and service make for a truly warm experience. There’s a neat restaurant kind of space used for serving meals, which we used on Day 1, and she organised a barbecue by the pool on day 2, which was really enjoyable.

Theres a chic bar space next to the pool with a fireplace which looks really inviting on those cool Coorg evenings. Children have lots of options for recreation, which include basketball, badminton, a stroll in the coffee estate adjoining the resort (led by Kieren) and loads of board games, so our brood really enjoyed the break from the roadside football which passes for playtime in namma Bengaluru. On the whole, we were looking for a lazy, laid back getaway from the rush and swirl, and at Captain Ks, we got just that and more. Would definitely go back.

Hi Leila,

Sorry for the delay in posting this. Thank you for giving us such a lovely weekend at your homestay - It was a wonderful 2 days we had with you and the kids. We had never stayed at a homestay before and quite contrary to what I've heard homestays usually are.

Captain K's Getaway was soo perfect and "luxurious"  The rooms, pool, fireplace, recreation area, and yes and as Keira expertly pointed out in her lil tour of the place - bathroom ( and I did agree that I had not seen one like that before  ) were all beautiful and I'm going to say PERFECT again. We're already making plans to come back and sit out on the pool chairs looking beyond the gawwwjjjuussss infinity pool into the mountains *sigh* All our friends cant wait to spend a weekend there and just relax. Such a rejuvenating weekend.

Congrats on such a lovely place and all the very best!

Do say hi to Keira and Keiran for me and we'll see you soon.

Much love
- Emanda

We're just back from an awesome vacation at Captain K's Getaway! This is a homestay with a difference; the comfort of "home" with amazing facilities. A special thanks to Leila for taking complete care of our culinary preferences. I'd spoken to her at length about the "pure vegetarian" food we need, and told her we don't even eat mushrooms. She remembered everything I'd told her and took wonderful care of our taste in food. Every meal was a wonderful spread of all our favorite dishes.

Vacation time is family time for us; the only time my husband and I have with our kids. It was catch-up time, and spending it at such a beautiful resort-like homestay made it very special. The staff at Captain K's Getaway is very well-trained and extremely courteous.

Spending some time with Kieren and Keira was lovely. My daughter Sheetal loved playing with Keira. It was especially wonderful that we were able to take Aryan, my li'l pug, on this vacation. He had a great time!

We'll definitely go there again!

I had been there in December after hearing a lot about it and it more than lived up to my expectations. It was nice to see a home-stay that was more than just a converted extra room. far from it, in fact. The location itself is stunning. the rooms are huge, spacious and very clean. and the bathroom is so good you might want to sleep there instead.

The food was abundant and outstanding. Leila and the kids are great.
i would very highly recommended it to anyone who appreciates the finer things in life.

I've been at Captain K's Getaway this summer with 10 years old son. It's one of the most beautiful home stays that I've seen in India. The landscape is gorgeous, the rooms are very spacious with fireplace but the best is ... the bathroom (really an experience!).

Perfect service, good food and kindly professionalism made my stay absolutely perfect! My son had a lot of fun swimming in the big and clean outdoor pool, playing football and jumping on the trampoline. I'll go back for sure as soon as I can!
